Jan 24-27 | Torrey Pines | San Diego, CA

Yesterday another exciting golf event in California began, as the Farmers Insurance Open returns at maybe the best public course in America, Torrey Pines. The 36 holes sit right above the Pacific Ocean, with many challenging and beautiful holes throughout the facility. Fairways are narrow, and tend to hold some fairway bunkers and twists and turns, that knock down the fairway hit rate. The rough looks to very deep, and players will want to keep it in the short stuff if they want to see any success this week. After day one, Kevin Yu leads at eight under, but Patrick Cantlay is tied in 2nd at seven under. I would keep an eye on Cantlay throughout this event as he looks to bounce back from a poor performance last week at the American Express. Morikawa currently sits at just five under, and was top three in outright winner odds before round one. Overall there’s a lot of golf to be played but I think Cantlay, Morikawa, and even Aberg are all golfers to keep close tabs on as we approach round three and four.
