The PGA Tour announced a potential merger with the DP World Tour and the Public Investment Fund (PIF).

The golf world was rocked this week by a bombshell announcement from PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monohan that the PGA Tour had agreed to merge with LIV Golf. In the 3 days since the announcement, the news and its implications are still difficult to parse, and it remains unclear if the deal will even make it through the Department of Justice. The proposed monopoly has massive ramifications for the sport, in addition to the very non-trivial geopolitical consequences of a Saudi-backed professional sports league. There’s lots of nuance in the details here and it’s going to be fascinating to watch this story unfold over the next few months, if not years.
