May 16 - 19 | Valhalla Golf Club | Louisville, KY

The entire golf world entered a parallel universe yesterday as world number one, Scottie Scheffler, was arrested at 6am ET on his way to the golf course to compete in the year’s second major championship. The chaotic morning began as a man was tragically killed in a traffic accident on the grounds of Valhalla Golf Club. Scottie arrived on site shortly after to warm up for his round and somehow ended up in a bizarre altercation with a Louisville police officer, who promptly took the best golfer in the world to jail and charged him with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic. He put on the orange jumpsuit, had his mugshot taken, got put in a cell, and began his stretching routine from jail about 90 minutes ahead of his tee time. Scottie was eventually released around 9am, at which point he made his way back to the golf course just in time for his 10am tee time. If that wasn’t crazy enough, he then went out and shot 66 yesterday, and he’s now tied for 4th place at the PGA Championship heading into the weekend.

In 1st place to start Round 3 is (once again) Xander Schauffele. Xander tied his own record at the majors by shooting an opening round 62, which he followed up with a 68 on Friday - putting him at 12 under and good enough to give him a one-shot lead over Collin Morikawa. Also near the top of the leaderboard are Sahith Theegala (-10), Bryson DeChambeau (-9), Viktor Hovland (-8), and Brooks Koepka (-7).

It’s been one of the wildest starts to a major in recent history, mostly due to what’s happened off the course, but the stage is certainly set for a memorable weekend at Valhalla. Let’s just hope no one else has to get arrested.
